In some cases the book is better than the movie. One example is The Shining. I thought the film was a load of old pants, but the book is brilliant. Needfull Things, also by Stephen King is a fantastic book, but the film was shyte. Salems Lot is a fantastic book. I've read it squillions of times and never tire of it. The film was great. Scared me to death when it first came out.

As people have said, the Harry Potter movies are great, and making the books into films worked for them. Another one was Jaws. The book was good and the film was great with the plastic shark at the end.
