I don't agree with the emphasis given to Religious studies by schools....I mean here we get the choice to send your children to Catholic, or CofE, and even other faith schools if you have one in your area, however, from an early age I disagreed with the teachings, I mean when I started Secondary school I refused to do RE on the grounds that I didn't beleive, it took a fight but I won and I never did RE throughout my school time...so you can refuse if you wish to protest...
The one thing I will say tough is I have noticed a change in the teaching curriculum when it comes to Regligous studies, in our schools now they do not only teach/preach about one faith they do discuss other religons and faiths and more importantly their history....
As I said I am not religious, but I am fascinated by the history of religion, the bible in particular and for anyone who is interested I think you would be amazed at what you would find, the why it was written, the when it was written and more importantly the who wrote it...and beleive me it's the kind of stuff that never gets into the classrooms...
But as a general rule I think each child should have the decision as to whether or not they want to attend RE class etc...
