A Brief History

FRIENDLY CHAT began with humble beginnings in August 2007. With just 2 static web pages, one owner, 2 staff members and merely a handful of loyal chatters. Despite this, the community became popular for its staffing methods, rules of common sense, communal democracy and most importantly - unlike other sites - operated a zero tolerance "No Perv" policy. Safety of our female chatters has always been and always will be our number one priority.

Two years on, 2009, the Founder of Friendly Chat decided it was time for drastic change and envisioned Friendly Chat as a modern, dynamic e-Community for adults who wish to chat in a fun, friendly environment without having to worry about kids, troublemakers and perverts.

Tom Holmes, the site's Founder and designer, set about creating the Friendly Chat you see now, planning the re-launch to coincide with New Years Day 2010 - a new decade. We believe in simplicity but are not technophobes. We understand that times are changing and with times, e-technology changing along with it. With social networking being the most popular form of communication traditional chat sites are dying out as less people enter 1990s-looking chat rooms and bulletin boards that belong in the 80s.

Being modern, though, does not mean being complicated. We pledged to create a simple e-Community with easy-to-use chat rooms for the chatters. An easy to use message forum for board posters, and an easy-to-use profiles system for the social networkers.

Despite most other sites slowing down, Friendly Chat has grown and still exists now because of people like you. 9 out of 10 new chat sites close down within the first year. But thanks to people like you we are still here! We listen to what you, the people, want out of a community. We know that you are tired of seeing "ASL ASL" and perverts - so we banned it and started the 'Put Chat Back Into Chatting' campaign. We know that you were fed up of chat rooms being full of kids and under-rated conversation - so we made Friendly Chat 18+ and encouraged discussions and banter. We know that most adult sites are simply full of sex and people soliciting themselves - so we banned it and are still today the web's only clean adult e-Community.

You tell us what you want and we will listen. Because of your suggestions and ideas we are still growing strong, and will carry on doing so. Whether we have two loyal regulars or 2,000 - we will always be here for you. Because we care.
